Lemhi County Humane Society owns & operates the Salmon Animal Shelter and Rags & Wags Thrift Store.
SAS provides high-quality sheltering services for the homeless pets of Lemhi County.
We also provide funds for public spay and neuter programs in an attempt to decrease the number of dogs and cats entering our shelter. We serve as a line of defense against animal abuse & neglect, working closely with law enforcement officials, to ensure that all animals in Lemhi County are treated in a kind and humane manner.

10:00am – 6:00pm
7 Days a Week
Rags & Wags Thrift Store Hours:
8:00am – 4:00pm M-F
10:00 – 2:00pm on Saturday
Meet our Bachelorette, Ember, a sweet and shy lady who was surrendered to us because her owner moved to another state and couldn't take her along. She has excellent manners and is an expert at loafing. Ember prefers to be an only pet or have other cat friends. We are excited to get to know her better as she adjusts to the community cat room. I had the pleasure of meeting Gizmo today and I must say what a sweetheart. She was out doing chores right there beside her foster mom…. Gizmo is living her best life ever and it shows (through the horse Pooh and all!) And a big shout out to her foster mom for being awesome & doing what you do👏

Truffles is versatile and can be your yoga buddy, snuggle partner or help you find what's on your top shelf; as you can see, she is not afraid of heights. Meet Roxy, the next Bachelorette, who has been at the shelter for 262 days! Roxy is an excellent on-leash walker who loves feeling the wind through her fur. She is well-behaved, friendly with other dogs, and doesn't bother cats. Roxy is a great companion to take out downtown or to the park, as she befriends everyone she meets.
However, the only thing that stands in the way of her adoption is her intelligence and love of the game keep away. She is still learning about recall, but volunteers have successfully taken, her out with other dogs while keeping a long leash on her. This way, when it comes time to load up, they can grab the long leash and get her into the vehicle. We hope that this one thing won't be what stands in Roxy's way as she has many outstanding qualities that outweigh her not having a good recall. ... See MoreSee Less
